Bocce on the Brain

So one of our new DIY projects is going to be a bocce ball court. Bocce began in Italy during the 19th century and is played on a court of crushed stone. You try to throw balls closest to the target ball (pallino). Initially bocce was only played in Italian communities, although people who secretly wish they were Italian and eat large amounts of pasta (like me) are also enjoying the game these days. Below are some bocce inspiration photos.

Fanny at Chez Panisse

I can tell you right now I will be buying this book for my kid. Fanny is actually the 7 year old daughter of Alice Waters, the owner and chef extraordinaire of Chez Panisse in Berkeley (one of our favorite restaurants). Through the eyes of Fanny, you experience the restaurant and the people who run it.

Expansive + Minimal

The first thing I thought of when I saw this beautiful loft was...roller skates. I would love to roller skate through this humongous, wood-floored wonder. Then I began to question how any family could live this minimally. I mean - I call shenanigans on this one. They did not just move in. They have a toddler. How did they avoid the large plastic ride-in cars and yellow grocery cart? Everyone has those! Where are their things? Photos? High chairs? Billy Joel Songbooks at the piano? Scribble drawings and US Magazines? Still. Lovely loft. See more of it here.

Glass Tile Rugs

I've seen glass tile and I've seen rugs, but now (much like an 80s Reese's commercial) they have been brought together in an unexpected way. The Bisanzio tile mosiac rugs from Sicis are made of small, perfectly formed, colorful glass tiles. They are hardwearing, so perfect for entryways, halls and bathrooms.

I wish we hadn't just finished our valentine's cards, because these would have been super cool.
